Underground Online has posted their review on Head Automatica’s latest music video single for “Lying Through Your Teeth” .
Head Automatica - ‘Lying Through Your Teeth’ From the album Popaganda
I wonder if this band knows any liars? It just might be possible.
The song, “Lying Through Your Teeth,” has a lot to do with lying. Most of the lyrics mention lying in one form or another. The word ‘lying’ is used about 197 times in the song’s 4 minutes. To say it gets a little repetitive would be a, well, lie. It’s very repetitive.
And it’s too bad, because it’s otherwise pretty catchy, despite the done-it-1,000-times-before ’60s TV show format of the video. You know the drill - the band is playing on an Ed Sullivan-type show, and when you see them through the studio cameras it’s black and white, and there are hundreds of screaming female fans in the audience.
Still, they could have had a “Stacy’s Mom” kind of thing on their hands if not for the fact there are something like 2 lines that comprise the lyrics of this song and they repeat ad nauseum. A little more complexity in that department might have done the trick, especially since the song features an extremely good guitar solo. OK, maybe not “Layla” good, but very good for mainstream rock/pop. This band seems to have what it takes to be popular, however - if they can hone their ideas a little more you’ll see them again, and that’s no lie.
