LONDON CALLING
HEAD AUTOMATICA MAN JETS INTO THE CAPITAL TO PREPARE FOR UK TOUR.
Head Automatica frontman Daryl Palumbo has arrived in the UK two weeks ahead of his bandmates to ensure he’s in peak physical condition for the band’s UK tour at the end of the month.
The UK shows will be his first since Glassjaw’s 2003 tour was cut short when Palumbo was admitted into hopital due to his ongoing battle with Crohn’s Disease, a type of inflmamatory bowel disorder which affects between 400,000 and 600,000 people in North America.
“I’ve had problems here and there but I’ve been on loads of interesting new medication and I feel pretty good,” Palumbo tells Kerrang!. “By coming over early, I’ll be able to relax and see some friends. In the past we’d come straight and toured, which puts my body under lots of stress. I’m terribly excited to be here”
“It’s just sometimes I get sick and it’s hard for me to get to a hospital and get the medication I need,” he adds. “I’ve been on tour for over a year, so I imagine that I’m doing better than I have been in the past.”
Palumbo has plans to make use of his time while in the UK and hopes to squeeze in a handful of DJ-ing gigs and head into a studio to work on some new material including a follow-up to Glassjaw’s 2002’s “Worship And Tribute“. According to the frotnman, their lengthy hiatus has paid dividends when it comes to writing new songs.
“You take a few years off from writing that music and then you kind of stop back and realize you’re a lot older and smarter,” he explains. “The music is brutal, the melodies are way more intimate and more melodic, and the heavy parts are five times heavier. The band is tighter than ever, and that’s pretty much the most important thing.”
Head Automatica’s tour begins at Southampton University on May 23.
