A first look at United Nations

Pastepunk has posted a minor review of the upcoming and highly anticipated United Nations album; out September 9th, 2008 via Eyeball Records.
This is the album I always wished THURSDAY would make. Sure I still love their newer efforts where they keep getting progressively more experimental with their music, but this UNITED NATIONS disc (out September 9th on Eyeball Records) is loud, fast and abrasive as hell. With Geoff Rickley’s trademark singing and an unknown screamer who sounds like Jacob Bannon with a sore throat (this is a very good thing. Based on what I’ve read I’m going to assume this is Daryl Palumbo from GLASSJAW, but everyone is keeping mum on the true details). Regardless, tracks like “Resolution #9″, which sounds like CURSED but sped up, and “My Cold War” have so much going on between the dual vocals, constantly changing drum patterns, and constant shredding that you’ll find yourself hitting repeat over and over. Hell, I’ve listened to this thing twice already this morning. If you’re a fan of THURSDAY you’d be crazy to pass this up and it demonstrates that it’s still possible to do the whole “sing/scream” dynamic in a way that isn’t absolutely annoying/infuriating. Hell, it’s so good you’ll even stick around for the saxophone solo at the end.

The second singer is Daryl. I don’t know why this guy is assuming stuff. I talked to geoff at a show in denver about the side project.
